Scanning speed
The Pannoramic digital slide scanners provide exceptional image quality and functionality both in brightfield and in fluorescence. With the constant development in the scanner program and imaging technology now we achieve high scanning speed, too.
Scanner program developments
General
Focusing is in general 20 percent faster in the new version.
Extended focusing (EF) uses the MMX instruction set in the new version which speeds up EF scanning by an average of 50 percent.
Fluorescent
Scanning with digital gain is available with the AxioCam and the Hitachi camera. By using this feature the exposure time for each channel diminishes by at least 50 percent which results in much faster scanning speed with a small or even no noticeable degradation in image quality. Furthermore, the digital gain (along with extended focus) parameters can be set separately for each channel.
Example: when working with FISH samples the pathologist concentrates on the FISH spots (usually in the green and the red channel) so perfect quality is needed there. With MIRAX digital slide scanners this means extended focusing has to be used in order to bring the FISH spots to the same virtual focus level. In the blue channel (which usually shows the nucleus) there is no need to have extended focus and what is more, the pathologist can use the digital gain in order to speed up scanning in that channel.
