Virtual Microscopy
Virtual microscopy is here. Back in the „old days” doctors, researchers and everyone else trying to examine a sample on a glass side had to sit next to a microscope, put the slide in, take a somewhat cramped position which is quite trying in the long run, focus his/her eyes to infinity and try to find the sample. That was and mostly still is the way you had to work with slides. The process itself can be learned quickly and with some experience you can do it fast.
However, there are always new challenges this method cannot cope with effectively. Also, we must not forget that doctors and researchers are human, too. Staring into the ocular in that one specified position for hours, focusing your eyes to infinity when looking into the microscope and then focusing to the paper if you want to record something surely gives you a headache and a hurting back.
